Waynesville Rural began hiring paid employees in 2003 beginning with 1 Firefighter/General Service Technician. With the increase in calls and the addition of paid personnel it became necessary to hire a full time Chief.
In April of 2007, with the aid of a SAFER (staffing for adequate fire emergency response) grant Waynesville Rural added 12 full time firefighters divided into three 4 person shifts.
Waynesville Rural employs 12 full time firefighters, 2 part time Firefighters, the Fire Chief, and an Administrative Assistant.
